We are the architects of our own future

Not everybody in this world is born with a silver spoon in the mouth. All of us have our own share of problems to deal with as we move on. Nobody has had a perfect life so far and nobody ever will. The path to success does not run straight. It zigzags through the moments of pain and pleasure, joy and sorrow, and peace and tragedy. As a result, it’s not uncommon for us to fall down when we stumble upon some unforeseen obstacles on the way. Yet it is not the end of everything. Every time we fall down and get up, we get up with new experiences and wisdom that make us a stronger person. Our success really depends on how well we can pick ourselves up whenever we break down and clear the obstacles that have caused us to trip over so that we don’t stumble upon them again in the future if we have to walk the same path.

When utensils are broken in Japan, it is said that the Kintsugi artists mend them using special lacquer mixed with powdered gold. The glittering network of cracks filled with gold does not only revitalize the value of the broken pottery but it also proudly retains the history of the pot. Likewise, we can also color our life with gold whenever we break down and proudly wear the scars as a badge of honor for having successfully endured several ordeals in life. When we fall down, it is in our hands whether to pick up the broken pieces of our life and mend them with gold, or to give up everything on the spot and fall further down. If we manage to get up and walk again with renewed energy and aspiration every time we trip over, there is ideally nothing that can ever stop us from reaching where we wish to be. A positive mind is an indispensable ingredient of a successful life. If you want to be successful, you should never be afraid of facing any kind of challenge in life. You should not worry about falling down. In fact, it’s the constant failures that leave you with new wisdom and experience so that you can easily step up and push your way forward. People say that every next level of your life demands a new version of you and it is the struggles you have been through that refine you to become a new person when you get up from the ground. No matter how many times you fall down, you will never become uglier. You can always shine if you have the courage and confidence to pick yourself up, color your life with gold and continue your journey without any regret.

Although I spent almost my entire childhood in the world of sorrows and miseries with only a disabled father to call a family, I had always tried to be positive. I would like to strongly believe that it could be this positive energy that could have led me where I am today. I should admit that there had been moments in my life when I was even suicidal but I knew I did not deserve to die. Had it not been for the constant advice and guidance of my late father, friends and teachers, I probably could not have sowed that seed of positivity in my mind. I have been convinced that we are the makers of our own destiny after all. It is up to us how to design our future and pave the path to reach there. The point I am driving home is that life is beautiful only to those who can paint it with the colors of their hearts. It is true that happiness comes from within, not from outside. So, be content with what you have, love yourself for what you are and never stop dreaming. One day, you would surely wake up to the kind of future you had designed for yourself.
